The 1999 vintage of Achaval Ferrer’s Finca Altamira was the first wine from Argentina to be awarded five stars by Decanter Magazine. Since then, they have continued to go from strength to strength, showing the superb quality of their vineyards in every vintage. The man at the winemaking helm is Gustavo Rearte who, since being appointed as Head Winemaker in 2013, has harnessed the high quality of fruit from the estate’s vineyards to bring the very best to each range of their wines.
The Fincas are the single vineyard Malbecs, now on their 2021 release. They express the finest terroirs of Mendoza, exploring the region’s diverse vineyard sites through Argentina’s signature grape
The name Quimera refers to the beast from ancient Greek mythology which was made up from three different animals. Each vintage the winemaking team strives to find the very best parcels of fruit from across their estate to show off the magic of the perfect blend. The Quimera red (a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot) and the white (comprising Chardonnay, Semillon, Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc) both offer generous flavour alongside an elegant structure and excellent depth.
Quimerino shows the free spirit and creativity of the winemaking team with two innovative blends, a white made from Sauvignon Blanc, Roussanne and Marsanne, and a red blend of Pinot Noir, Malbec and Syrah, with an intriguing touch of Sauvignon Blanc.
The Mendoza wines are a stunning representation of Argentina’s flagship grape varieties. Made from a selection of top vineyards across Mendoza, they demonstrate the strengths of the region, producing young, powerful wines which speak clearly of their origin.
